minagoroshi (massacre arc)
question arc: tatarigoroshi
pov character: rika
timeframe: june 1983
reading time: 06/03/26 - 23/10/25
ch1
- "rikas" (plural) pov in abstract; welcomes an unclear brother or sister (hoping for sister) describing the endless looping maze timeline situation as rikas life ... it's the player!
- declares herself a witch thats lived a hundred years and cannot escape her fate
- notes that she intends to colonize this endless possibility situation and then vanish, taking herself out of existence in the process
- each chapter so far has been a "fragment of memory" that rika is collecting, which she names and labels
- rika chose to kill herself in meakashi as a mercy escape because it is a loop similar to watanagashi wherein she was tortured to death (like satoko)
- examines which events are inevitable (hitsuzen... clamp mode) per fragment
- defines three rules:
- rule x, that one person suffers from severe paranoia (hinamizawa syndrome) per fragment
- rule y, that miyo & tomitake are always killed, the inciting incident towards paranoia worsening
- rule z, that the sonozakis will always claim responsibility to further control, leading to ooishi and miyo already nudging a fragment's infected person further into paranoia + shion's theory about the curse system
- rika is sometimes killed in rule y fashion, other times in rule x fashion
- she notes watanagashi and meakashi as rule y outliers, asking if the player knows what happens after her death as she can never see what happens in the story past it (its the disaster...?)
- rika needs to beat all three rules to succeed in a world. keiichi defying rule x in tsumihoroboshi was a miracle that gave her hope and new perspective, but shes at risk for losing sense of her timeline memory, which will erase her existence
- rika could previously collect fragments across multiple years but now only has several of 1983, with none from 1980-1982
- hanyuu (?!)s power is weakening, she used to be able to turn back time across years but now is only rewinding on a 1month to 2weeks basis (repeating rikas story)
- rika pov; shes thrown "back" into a timeline. she snaps into being moderately injured falling off a tree branch during club activity behind the shrine; hanyuu (!!!) appears (!!!🐑) ghostlike asking if shes ok, but all rika wants to know is when this is
- its one week before watanagashi; her memory replenishes accordingly
- rika was killed in tsumihoroboshi sometime after being sent home from the clinic after the hostage situation, but before the next dawn
- her death memories are always vague; she thinks she was kidnapped then killed
- hanyuu is invisible and intangible to everyone but rika; she has been with her since her birth and follows across loops. theyre trapped together and rika is often very curt with her
- despite her torment rika genuinely loves her club members very much
- despite hanyuu suggesting she shouldnt, rika immediately probes to see if keiichi remembers the last loop as deja vu (he doesnt)
- tips:
- To my granddaughter
- unclear grandfather addressing a granddaughter: proclaims that despite all his work he's failed to truly leave a mark on the world. he urges her to create a great work that will let her achieve posthumous fame, thus "becoming a god"
- is it miyo's grandfather...?
- rika pov; at the clinic, satoko is getting examined for a paranoia flareup; shes given a shot by irie and miyo. shes apparently "level 3" infected and can not be cured; maintaining a balanced lifestyle is the treatment plan
- irie seems to be working towards a parasite cure, rika is some sort of willing test subject towards his research. he vaguely mentions an upcoming large-scale test
- irie is interrupted by a tokyo call from risa; satoko is given her weekly cognitive test by miyo (broccoli vs cauliflower among the questions). she gets paid for participating in the research
- miyos notes on her progress are in german. rikas memories are jumbled but hanyuus are clear, but rika hates talking to her so doesnt consult her very much
- satoko is instructed to take two injections a day alongside keeping an emergency potent shot (like epipen). she gets along well with miyo as they both love plushies (emphasis on them having some sort of significant similarity...?)
- miyos newest plushy is a cat with tiger stripes
- the girls head to okinomiya for the toy store club activity (arc2, 5)
- rika is internally posessive of satoko. hanyuu cant eat, but loves sweets and can taste whatever rika eats; rika threatens to not eat sweets to bother her
- rika misses a cue to react to satoko due to timeloop knowing about it beforehand; she assures hanyuu internally that its a small mistake she can roll with, but shes afraid of becoming completely anhedonic and no longer reacting to anything
- rika thinks of "rika" as a role she has to play. hanyuu has been stuck with her fate far longer than rika has been looping
- rika loves the club as mion decides most of their games completely randomly, but on rare occasions like today its some sort of "predetermined will"... though the "toy store event" is on its own extremely rare
- hanyuu has taught her to manage her expectations and hope, as hoping for alternative outcomes increases her despair and potential for giving up (disappearing)
- keiichi suddenly off-script points out rika looks bored, startling her; she "predicts" how the game will play out to him
- keiichi thinks its a coincidence, and rika starts to think her actual complete death to despair and powerlessness against fate may be approaching
- keiichi "defies fate" by then requesting a different game is brought out for his group to play, rather than rikas "prediction"
- inspired, rika defies her fated game the same way
- after club (its interrupted), player is prompted to either have rika intervene and tell keiichi to give the doll to mion, or idly hope he will do so on his own; regardless of player choice, the outcome is the same: keiichi realizes and gives the doll to mion (rika fails to intervene if prompted to)
- mion very embarrasedly accepts the doll, feeling as if she cant within playing the role of tomboyish mion (with shion knowledge though this is now crazy)
- rika notes there has been a previous loop wherein mion is given the doll, but still goes crazy as keiichi didnt start to treat her as a girl
- tips:
- Good times with Oyashiro-sama
- rika pov; watching tv with satoko, hanyuu frequently replies to the tv/satokos comments as if satoko could hear her. shes lonely; rika comments that hanyuu would get along with everyone if she was corporeal
- she monologues that hanyuu is oyashirosama but with mysteriously immensely weakened power. rika is indeed connected to her as the eightth firstborn girl of her family, but hates her
- keiichi pov; hes surprised to learn the alternate game he was given yesterday caused a sales boom for the toy store
- during lunch, the kids' teacher and shion are at school discussing with keiichi that the watanagashi planning committee wants him to host an auction (arc6)
- the arc3 baseball game took place
- he agrees on the condition he'll receive 10 years' worth of angel mort event admission tickets
- mion gives the kids ohagi as oryou made too many. they suppose she makes them a lot as her late husband souhei (the war profiteer) really loved ohagi
- mion then teases revealing to the kids why shion hates canned food; shion wins the battle and then explains solemnly that she had been scared into thinking some canned food contains human meat
- shion has been making a lot of squash-based meals for satoko who hates squash (implying shion may be taking better care of her this loop)
- keiichi feels deja vu over being told his ohagi may have something sinister inside; his memories from other arcs blend together a bit
- rika goes somber and encourages him to examine his memories. he recounts the impossible memories then concludes his fear of a needle being in his food is because of a comic he read while very young. rika concludes that mion would never ever put needles in his food and he should never think so
- later the club plus shion are examining the auction items at the furude shrine to prepare; rena mentions that her and her dad are redecorating together bc he got a job (implying better outcome for rena's story thread) and discusses her parents' divorce a bit
- shion briefly mentions she was in a slump after escaping st. lucia's
- rena got a better outcome catching and dealing w rina via consulting mion *before* the dad paid for rinas apartment, and now rena gives her dad the alimony as an allowance as a reversal
- rena describes having had a dream of an alternate outcome, awaking afraid and having fought to avoid that happening. rika is very interested in this
- shion may have had a similar dream. rena affirms the importance of opening up and relying on your friends for serious problems. everyone but mion invites shion to the festival
- rika pov; at night, shes feeling hopeful and wants to drink. its revealed hanyuu is against it moreso because she hates the taste of alohol. rika threatens to eat spicy kimchi if hanyuu doesnt let her drink; hanyuu is jumping up and down in protest (arc2/5 storehouse), which awakes satoko
- rika monologues that hanyuu is most perceptible to people in level 4 condition (terminal), where becoming aware of something impossible like the divine drives them to complete madness
- in conversation with hanyuu, rika realizes that if she dies in this timeline of absolutely everything having had perfect outcomes she may truly completely despair, as that would mean there's absolutely nothing she can do to avoid her fate
- shes tried to ask for direct help before, in which case she's always guarded by miyo and tomitake, who always die on watanagashi
- she had previously tried to save her parents in loops but eventually got sick of them
- rika resents the clinic for using her and satoko as guinea pigs but resolves to ask irie for help directly. she has no idea who her murderer is; suspects it cannot possibly be the clinic and especially not miyo (its definitely miyo)
- the logic is that miyo has told her her death would be like a bomb/eruption in the village, and miyo would definitely not want her favorite test subject destroyed
- she wants to figure out tomitake and miyos murders which will then hopefully figure out/prevent her own
- shes previously tried living in the woods alone to avoid her fate, making it as far as july then still being killed
- shes tried asking keiichi for help before, to which he did not believe her
- tips:
- The Two of Us
- hanyuu pov; monologuing about her relationship with rika. rika was born seeing her; it was the first time hanyuu had been able to directly communicate with humans in centuries
- rika assumed hanyuu was a member of her family; this is what lead to the aforementioned in tips rift between rika and mama furude. hanyuu stepped in to teach rika the things her mother did not (creating further rift)
- hanyuu is ashamed of her horns that make her distinctly non-human, and adores that rika doesnt mind them
- shes unable to directly prevent rikas death unless the murder is figured out; she can only send her back in time
- rika and hanyuu are forever linked but they dont seem to automatically mindread eachother; it's like a telepathic link they can control. they also can't communicate if they're very far from one another
- hanyuus secretly happy to have prolonged rikas lifespan and get to spend infinite time with her and the club members
- rika goes to the clinic on sunday, seeking miyo. shes off work, so rika instead talks with irie. theres a clinic meeting tonight
- irie directs her to probably find miyo with tomitake at the shrine
- "risa" is tomitake; irie called him that by mistake and the nickname stuck
- rika spots the couple's matching set of bikes by the shrine; she finds them scheming to break into the ritual storehouse
- the storehouse is hanyuus cozy spot where she often goes to be alone. both rika and hanyuu are unnerved by miyo wanting to defile the storehouse by exposing its contents for shock value rather than out of respect
- rika hates miyo...?
- she decides to just let them into the storehouse early. miyo erupts in celebration (the rare miyo nipah)
- rika charges them 10,000 yen to take photos of the ritual implements. she tries to trick miyo further but tomitake figures it out
- hanyuu considers herself a club member and notes that a younger miyo would definitely be crafty enough to join club (hmmm)
- tomitake is very unnerved by the torture tools. miyo and rika explain the tools were more for show than for actual use, but actual use was for both forcing confession, punishment, and entertaining an audience
- miyo then explains the cannibalism myth; hanyuu looks upset and rika monologues that while the torture and cannibalism did take place, hanyuu never wanted any of it and wasnt able to communicate with the villagers to stop them
- gradually her tone getting more and more firm, miyo describes the function of torture tools and compares them to the comparatively merciful guillotine. this ramps up; she somewhat thanks oyashirosama for allowing this festivity to occur, then monologues about gods being nothing but tools with which to control others
- ends on this concept that "the stairs to godhood are built not by gods, but by human hands"; hanyuu protests loudly, crying, jumping up and down to force the couple to hear her. she hates miyo and her theories
- rika tres to console her saying hanyuu doesnt have to adhere to the village's misconceptions about oyashirosama, who may as well be a separate entity
- only tomitake hears hanyuus protest (implying late stage infection; it mightve been that miyo bringing him into this room at all is to further his paranoia...)
- rika tries to explain that he simply heard oyashirosama's statue protesting to quell his anxiety, but that only freaks him out more
- miyo apologizes seriously, promising to bring some sweets over. hanyuu requests more sweets than promised so rika awkwardly asks for that, breaking the tension
- rika resolves to explain to the couple their death is imminent and theyre the only ones that can save her
- third person pov; in the clinic meeting, irie announces he is very close to uncovering a cure for hinamizawa syndrome within the next 3 years at the clinic meeting. tomitake is present, wearing a formal military-like uniform suit(!)
- eight people in the meeting
- miyo notes that the clinic is finalizing a method of identifying infected patients via blood testing; the current non-blood method is difficult and very costly
- tomitake is in charge of getting the clinics desired budget secured from the government (ministry of health official?)
- with the rest of the staff out, irie, miyo and tomitake discuss the current trials. satoko is doing well but will be terminally infected for the rest of her life
- satoko isnt actually being paid by the clinic; they told her the guinea pig story rather than explaining she has a severe incurable very dangerous form of the disease
- satoko has brain damage from her late-stage incurable infection status, hence neurological testing
- rika was the first patient subjected to the clinic's "inhumane experiments", seemingly immediately after her parents' deaths
- miyo and tomitake then detail that rika explained to them she thinks she will be killed soon; they think its just her infection progressing
- in exchange for being allowed to take photos of the storehouse, miyo resolves to place 4 mountain dog operants to surveil her 24/7. unclear why she has this power
- rika pov; the kids are back at the toy shop to convince the owner to donate toys for the auction. the topic of oryou comes up (as threat); rika internally describes her as a monster. satoko says shion has called her someone who likes to rip out peoples fingernails, heavily implying shion is tortured in every timeline (!!!???%)
- rika explains to hanyuu mion is like the village's princess so everyone must go along with what she says. internally she notes the reason so many local businesses are "softly" part of the sonozakis is beacuse the main family lends out a lot of money unusually leniently for a mafia
- the kids select some backyard toys for the auction. the danger of satoko spotting the teddy satoshi wanted to get her lingers in the air
- they get distracted by a mahjong table set up in the store; the kids practice a cheating technique
- rika thinks this loop is going so well its as if shes saved up 100 years' worth of luck and is spending it at once
- ooishi enters; he can execute the cheating trick, impressing the kids. keiichi unusually politely asks to be taught the trick, and the two bond
- rika is astonished by this sight
- suddenly, mamoru enters; hes on a trip to hinamizawa with yukie(!!) while miyuki is with grandparents
- he recognizes rika immediately. in this timeline, rika warned him of yukies death and he was able to get back to her in time; a janitor died in her stead. the guys leave to play mahjong (with kuma in the foreman's place)
- rika feels as if her luck has been perfected. the next day, as keiichi gets entangled with the bike delinquents in okinomiya, rika throws herself in the midst of it with strange resolute calm as a test; the bodyguards surveiling her save her
- a white van (dogs) follows rika home, confirming her safety
- tips:
- Before the Flight
- third person pov; unclear exchange between two men in an apartment, one of them turns to rina and gives her a plane ticket. suddenly a bunch of black cars swerve towards the apartment pavement, and a lot of men begin running towards the apartment; her unknown companion tries to urge her out, saying theyre here to kill her
- sounds like theres additionally some sort of conflict between rina/teppei in this type of timeline
- third person pov?; someone arrives on a motorbike home (its teppei)
- rika pov; she senses something is about to go wrong. she had sent satoko grocery shopping and she hasnt returned on time
- rika starts to go out looking for her, which very quickly turns into a panicked chase (hanyuu is out sleeping/walking alone)
- she bumps into rena and realizes that satoko getting stuck with her uncle in a timeline is just as rare as akasakas visits; she doesnt know how to ask rena for help and darts away
- she arrives at satokos house and sees its suddenly occupied and collapses; shes greeted by a broken satoko then teppei. she flees crying knowing satokos fate is sealed and this timeline is now doomed
- at home, rika calls the precinct to get in touch with mamoru; hes no longer in hinamizawa but will revisit to attend the festival
- rika rushes to the hospital; she begs miyo and irie for help. they resolve for miyo and her control over the mountain dogs militia (??!!) to "take care" of the issue
- miyo suddenly calls irie her "section chief" rather than usual boss, resolving to contact one okonogi(..?). she emphasizes that both irie and herself may wind up in trouble over this, making it sound like she's been subject to or held military trial hearings
- an hour later miyo returns saying they cant place a hit on teppei for the cops are currently watching him to observe involvement with rina's murder in okinomiya (watching to catch curse perpetrators)
- she notes rina was killed for stealing from the sonozakis. they cant carry out the hit until next week's festival at the earliest, which is too late from rika's perspective
- rika loses it (deeper register); she wants to kill herself to reunite with a happier satoko in the next world but is wracked with guilt over the idea of intentionally abandoning this world's satoko
- at home, rika desperately cries; she thought her fate had been resolved in this timeline. in conversation with a calm hanyuu she realizes this timeline wasn't ideal as there was a lot of unusual discrepancies with the dates in which regular/rare events were occurring
- rika absolutely does not want to live in a world without satoko; she fully loses all hope
- the next day rika arrives at school late and immediately cries at the sight of satokos empty chair; she feels as if everyone in this world is completely useless, that shes about to give up on them. she responds to her teacher very rude and makes to leave; the teacher suddenly pulls her to the office and asks her sincerely whats wrong
- without meaning to and completely apathetic, rika explains everything about satoko then coldly laughs that theres nothing chie could do. suddenly, shion outbursts on the authorities' uselessness; the club was listening in from just outside
- shion loses it, declaring she'll kill the uncle; her friends restrain her. this exchange isnt new to rika
- third person pov following chie; she tries to get ahold of satoko at her house but is berated by teppei, confirming the worst
- rika pov; back at school shion is still going berserk. the girls emphasize that murder is really wrong and problems can be resolved by asking your friends for help
- (i dont think this problem can be resolved without murder) (i stand with shion)
- shion leaves to go murder teppei and keiichi blocks her way; she hits him with a chair, severely injuring him (YUUUP). she calms down and accepts their (pointless in her eyes) choice to try the peaceful option first. the teachers go to make phone calls
- rika is bored out of her mind, anhedonic and knowing this wont work at all
- tips:
- Wet Blanket
- third person pov; teppei has to flee okinomiya in timelines like this one out of perceived collusion with rina, when in reality he doesnt know much about the scheme of hers that gets her killed
- he thinks of satoko as a perfect loyal pet he can keep unlike rina who wasnt fully "tamed"; he thinks satoko will grow up to be beautiful like her mother (teppei's sis-in-law) within the next ~5 years thus he will take her as a "proper" wife
- chie interrupted teppei and his buddies making satoko serve them food and crawl on the floor "like a pet"; during the social services visit later that night, satoko pretended to be very sick
-
chie interrupted teppei and his buddies making satoko serve them food and crawl on the floor "like a pet"; during the social services visit later that night, satoko pretended to be very sick
- the whole situation is very inconvenient for teppei
- keiichi pov; mion tells him over the phone satoko did not cooperate with the social workers. he calls rena; hes suddenly overcome with alternate timeline memories of satoko breaking like in arc 3; rena suddenly has similar memories
- keiichi admits he also wouldve wanted to immediately plan on killing teppei if not for shion having made the absurd outburst (bro); he suddenly recalled his alternate timeline memories of killing teppei and didnt want to repeat that as it was a sin he couldnt bear the weight of (bro)
- theyre worried about rika who looked completely depressed; they resolve to try and cheer her up and save satoko without violence
- keiichi turns to his parents for advice; they recommend they have satokos on-hold child consultation centre case appealed
- the next day at school, the kids decide to go to the agency directly and appeal. its in the same building as the library in okinomiya. rika is bitter, particularly noting its unusual for shion to display this level of care for satoko. her friends are trying to coax her along convincing her to care for satoko the way one might do for a baby
- rika pov; hanyuu is telling her she cannot get her hopes up, but it happens anyways. rena assures her that if they all work together a miracle will happen; rika is clinging to the idea of a miracle
- keiichi pov; the kids have an appointment with a social worker (not satoko's) at the centre but it doesnt really go anywhere as the agency needs to wait and see. if abuse is reported/found, teppeis legal guardianship would have to be removed after a lengthy trial
- keiichi admits he has no ideas; rika breaks down as she was relying on him and his hopeful fearlessness that a normal solution could be found in opposition to shions eagerness to just kill teppei
- keiichi realizes his role as motivator/cheerleader and tries to bring the club's depressed mood around with a new scheme
- tips:
- Receptionist's note
- brief agency note on the club kids' visit, right below is a reminder the break room fridge is gonna be cleaned out
- The Bankbook Frustration
- third person pov; teppei thinks satoko is hiding her family's inheritance money via banknotes (in reality she has no access to any of it)
- he breaks furniture and screams at her to get her to confess, but she ultimately doesnt, and he accept that she doesnt know
- he goes about trying to find the banknotes; he has savings from illegal gambling (connection to mamoru's gambling crackdowns?) but doesn't want to use them
- he's eager to break satoko
- keiichi pov; at school lunch the next day, keiichi rallies the whole class to join on protesting at the agency
- the manager and a worker meets with the whole class; they dont really get through to the agency
- back in hinamizawa, the classmates resolve to bring more and more people with them to another mini protest like that tomorrow
- keiichi rallies more people via the arc3 baseball desserts pervert (and other angel mort regulars)
- that night, keiichi attends a town hall meeting regarding his position as auctioneer at the festival. the teachers, ooishi, irie, mion, rika, mayor kimiyoshi and keiichis dad are present
- keiichis dad joins the festival planning adults out for drinks. keiichi lingers waiting to bike home with mion; ooishi keeps him company as he waits
- after some time of mion not budging keiichi makes to leave; ooishi's tone changes and he warns him to not host another mini protest
- ooishi explains the agency will only dig its heels with further protesting as it doesn't want to give the impression its verdicts can be reversed by persistent pestering, even if the verdict has been wrong
- the agency suspected there's sonozaki pressure to harm satoko and/or catch teppei, rather than this being a genuine report, so they consulted with oryou; she denied involvement, and thus the case is likely to not progress without her pressure
- keiichi resolves further to protest, even if the sonozakis and subsequently the rest of the village turn against him; ooishi is pleased, explaining he himself is similarly trying to avenge the foreman by investigating the curse
- tips:
- No relations
- third person pov; oryou's phone call with the goverment agency (a different branch; clearly its a sonozaki member thats very connected to gov)
- oryou loses her temper at the question of if the sonozakis are trying to help a houjou; her lack of approval on the case is what's leading it to stall
- Sending the Brat Back
- third person pov; teppei doens't want to let satoko go back to school as he thinks she will report him
- teppei makes a mess of searching for the banknotes; on entering satoshis room, satoko tries to stop him
- he realizes she might get seriously violent or run away if he messes with this room; he gets her to promise she wont run away nor report him on the threat he'll ruin satoshis room
- keiichi pov; a broken satoko is back at school the next day, claiming she really was just sick
- keiichi (with warning) goes to pat her head to test if she'll react to it as bad as in arc3; she's instead comforted, it seemingly reminds her of satoshi (a sign teppei hasn't raped her like in arc3)
- she cries; the classroom affirms they want to help satoko, who still will not admit to the abuse
- keiichi outstretches a hand promising to get her out of her house if she just confesses it to him, but she's terrified
- rena recalls her delusion-dream of oyashirosama beckoning her back to the village; rika is shocked to hear this
- the principal approaches the room quickly with heavy footsteps; satoko completely freaks out, hiding behind the window curtain
- satoko hasn't taken her shots and is hallucinating her uncle. rika declares this an emergency and sends the club members to fetch irie
- clinicians arrive and satoko is quickly back in the classroom in her broken state. keiichi sneaks out to try and ask about satoko's illness; rika explains she experienced shock today because her home life stress made her forget her morning dose of medicine
- rika explains to him teppei is threatening satoshi's room and to not let shion find out about this. she says she's never succeeded in saving satoko but thinks "this" keiichi can make it; keiichi resolves further
- after school, an even larger group storms the agency. tomitake, miyo and irie are also present
- irie passes out banners and headbands; tomitake of all people notes the similarity to the dam conflict (which side was he on...?)
- the agency is overwhelmed with their numbers and requests only three representatives meet with the head of the office: keiichi, irie, rika
- rika pov; hanyuu shows up to talk to rika as the meeting begins. rika realizes the reason this world hasnt achieved true miracle status is both herself and satoko are refusing to honestly ask for help from others
- rika resolves she will do her best to unlock satoko's heart; if she fails, she accepts her soul's death as an end from the looping. hanyuu is distraught; its clear she doesn't want to be severed from her first connection/medium (she will be alone as a ghostly observer of the village without rika)
- hanyuu insists rika needs to continue rolling and waiting for a better world to eventually organically happen, whereas rika has just realized she needs to be an actress in this play rather than a passive observer (hanyuu gambling analogy?)
- rika monologues that in tsumihoroboshi, keiichi would have been blown up by the bomb without her intervention; her active participation was pushing for a miracle to happen, which is proof she needs to act more boldly in this world too.
- hanyuu leaves, upset. rika participates in the meeting (not shown)
- keiichi pov; conversing that the meeting didnt really go anywhere new; the agency will try to reach a new conclusion in one month. the kids realize the best course of action would be pushing satoko to ask for help herself
- rika announces she's going to try and talk to satoko directly. the rest of the group resolves to protest at the agency again tomorrow (likely smaller numbers)
- festival meeting members go for another meeting tonight. rena tags along. in particular shion greets mayor kimiyoshi for the first time in a while (awawa)
- its thursday, 3 days til the festival
- keiichi is suddenly pulled out by mion to talk with the teachers in private. chie's status as the teacher of the stangely-structured hinamizawa school is only in place because of sonozaki support, and she's close to losing that support for supporting the pro-satoko protests
- keiichi realizes it's the village elders' hatred towards the houjous interfering with his plans to help her, suspecting mayor kimiyoshi made mion disavow further support last night
- the other kids suddenly join the conversation; shion explains the lingering hatred towards satoko is more the villagers' fear of being turned into a scapegoat for associating with the already-scapegoated houjous, rather than genuine hatred towards her
- its a self-fulfilling loop where seemingly all the elders are open to forgiving satoko, but think they will lose social standing among other elders for doing so
- during the dam conflict, there was basically a protest opposition party lead by the houjous, spurred by the lax papa furude, who were willing to accept government money and vacate the village
- this created immense inner tension; oryou rose up as an aggressive leader willing to push back against the government at all costs
- the houjous were thus scapegoated to squash the pro-evacuation group. mr (stepdad) houjous brother and sister in law were roped into it all despite no involvement; they took it out on satoshi and satoko when they were placed under their legal guardianship
- the twins explain oryous plan is to have mion once formalized as the successor (imminent yet could take years) announce the houjous ought to be forgiven by now, but refuses to do so herself for the sake of appearances
- shion theorizes this social pressure/appearances situation is the true form of oyashirosamas curse; rika protests, explaining that oyashirosama likes satoko
- keiichi and rena resolve to immediately take action and "throw out" the rotten rules of this village
- mion decides to join; the cast gives their support
- ooishi and keiichis dad talk about mahjong together
- rika pov; she discusses with hanyuu/monologues how keiichi is the most capable of all for this tasks and she will support him
- tips:
- A Civil Servant's Preperations
- crosstalk between gov officials; emphacizing they shouldnt give satokos child consultation centre case any special attention irregardless of hinamizawa approval/disapproval (currently perceived as disapproval because of oryous neutral stance)
- keiichi pov; immediately before the meeting starts, he begins questioning the mostly-elders audience. he presents it as "could you please explain to a child like me"
- mayor kimiyoshi explains he wants keiichi to drop the agency protests as the dam protests are fully over; the village town hall council wants no more conflicts with the government
- shion probes saying the real reason the elders want the gov. agency protests dispelled is that the government presently gives hinamizawa an inordinate amount of funding following the political power the villagers accumulated during the dam conflict; the most-funded event is the watanagashi festival
- the assembly eventually is won over; keiichi and rena physically fight a bit with some grampas
- the kids realize oryou is the only one that can formally call for satoko to be saved; they decide to confront her tomorrow night
- rika monologues about the power to cut fate in half; dramatic sfx
- tomorrow night, the kids with mayor kimiyoshi and irie meet with oryou. she's bed bound and surrounded by top sonozaki members; akane is her main representative speaking for her
- keiichi threatens to kill oryou and make mion the head of family; oryou threatens him right back
- akane is incredibly resolute and coldly calm compared to oryou and the twins; she finally concedes somewhat on realizing satoko is like family to keiichi and he is begging for her life (shocks the twins)
- akane explains it is a matter of honor and image as the houjou parents had publicly disparaged oryou specifically. if satoko were to apologize, the sonozakis would be forced to forgive her and allow her to be helped
- the twins' father speaks up, wanting to support keiichi's boldness
- the protest occurred today with smaller numbers
- keiichi lunges towards oryou for refusing to give the greenlight; a lot of her guards almost draw weapons
- oryou's blood pressure spikes at his disrespect and she calls off the meeting due to not feeling well enough
- outside, most of the group converges and discusses how long itll take for oryou to give her approval. mayor kimiyoshi and akane emerge and declare oryou just gave them her approval
- akane explains the story must go as "keiichi started choking oryou, to which she conceded to his boldness" so that the sonozakis could save face. she notes the family would have preferred the protests go on and succeed without their approval (mayor kimiyoshi essentially went behind their backs with this meeting)
- akane instructs keiichi to not come around the main house again as oryou will likely attack him with her sword (that she was going easy on him in todays meeting)
- (im mad oryou didnt get to attack pervert boy with a sword...)
- on the way home, keiichi tells rika to stop using the word "fate". she hopefully agrees; mentions theres been 2 worlds so far where keiichi never even moved to hinamizawa, which particularly saddened her
- third person pov; mayor kimiyoshi calls the shishibone city hall and establishes a reversal of oryous previous decision with the threat of the whole village joining keiichis protest if satoko isnt placed under the child welfare offices protection immediately
- the prefectural office chief isnt aware of the onigafuchi guardians' power and isnt conceding to higher ups' warnings as hes not from hinamizawa/okinomiya/shishibone ch10
- keiichi pov; its the saturday before watanagashi (half-day). at school, mayor kimiyoshi tells the kids the local government still isnt cooperating. they agree to protest immediately after school
- rika tried convincing satoko to ask for help, unclear on success rate
- the protest has very large turnout with over 150 people including trucks with loud speakers (arc4)
- ooishi with some cops shows up and tells keiichi and mayor they need to disband as theyre protesting without permission from the cops/road division
- the kids are devastated but mion resolves that with patience they'll see the correct verdict is made
- satoko didnt come to school again today
- third person pov; teppei intended to let satoko go to school but she genuinely has a high fever to the point of barely waking up
- he sneaks up to go through satoshi's room while satoko is asleep, but it's booby-trapped and things loudly knock over as soon as he opens the door
- satoko runs up and begs for the room to be left alone; teppei snaps and beats her without remorse
- keiichi pov; rena explains that ooishi is being kind to keiichi right now by politely asking the protesters to disperse instead of immediately getting the riot team (okay...)
- ooishi gets a call from his boss; he lies saying the protest is already dispersing to intentionally stall. he explains to kumachan that keiichi clearly has sonozaki approval for this. ooishi hands him a smoke
- suddenly, sonozaki vehicles swerve onto the scene and storm the building; even shmion are shocked over these particular elected in-office politician uncles' presence, which scares keiichi
- ooishi sheepishly pretends to half-dispel these guys but clearly is ready to let them in. a sonozaki attorney steps in and hands paperwork to ooishi explaining this protest and their demands are fully allowed (forgery saying keiichi is a formal organization leader in opposition to the welfare centre's supposed breaking of the law), so he lets them go
- third person pov; the kids storm in alongside the mafiosos and are told they will be allowed to meet with the head of the office, who is holed up in a meeting room getting scared of phone calls telling him to concede already
- the final call is from the shishibone mayor, with oryou and akane having pressured him in person into this as a favor but in a way that will have keiichi keep all the credit
- swaps to teppei's side; he's hurt satoko to the point of her face bruising while the phone rings. the child consultation centre repeatedly asks for permission to be let into the home and for satoko to be put on the phone; he eventually lets her, after threatening her. as she's on the phone, he's gripping her shoulders forcefully
- keiichi intercepts the phone call from the other side assuring her help will be on the way as soon as she says the word. he relays an apology from oryou(!)
- rika steals the phone; tries to convince satoko that the correct option here is to fight and ask for help rather than wait to be saved by satoshi, calling her weak for not standing up for herself (GIRL?)
- satoko realizes she needs to show her own courage and ask for help while directly staring down teppei. its acknowledged he is physically holding her down and could beat her again or even rape her like in arc3 but this is treated as her climactic breaking the cycle moment of respecting satoshis memory by doing the same thing he did for her, for herself, instead of being whiny and incompetent (GIRL........)
- this is insane. she's in physical danger. she's ~ten years old. why does the ten year old need to stand up for herself and "stop waiting to be saved". this is disgustingly written
- she yells for help and is immediately beaten down. she leaps onto teppei and attacks him, which has no effect
- right before teppei can hurt her further, riot cops slam against the front door
- keiichi pov; ooishi had called riot police to the scene to standby and enter the moment satoko finally asked for help. the kids rush to the scene in irie's car
- satoko and rika tearfully hug eachother; irie takes satoko to the clinic (alone??)
- teppei is taken by the cops; mion assures he will never be welcome in hinamizawa again. shion chimes in saying he won't be allowed in okinomiya either
- it's watanagashi tomorrow. keiichi monologue affirms this is the perfect happy ending and true miracle
- poem break and title drop
- keiichi pov; the next day, the kids go to the festival together (including shion; satoko is bandaged up)
- satoko spent the night at the hospital with irie observing her which is ... uh... this game is written insanely bad. entrusting the vulnerable abused little girl with the "not really a pedo but he jokes about it, but also he is kinda genuinely interested in satoko WHO IS 10 YEARS OLD" guy is insane. what are we doing here
- they have club activities at the festival
- poem-formatted rika pov narration of satoko being treated exceptionally well by villagers for the first time, no longer ostracized
- mamoru is there; rika in narration realizes he was never the key to solving anything
- keiichi is praised by everyone as well; the auction had immense turnout. it's not shown :( ... .... :( ... .... ...... ..
- mion introduces her prefectural representative uncle saburou and city council uncle ken who helped strongarm the welfare centre
- keiichis parents surprisingly visit the festival
- rika pov; hanyuu calls this the best watanagashi she's ever had. she tries to tell hanyuu that fate could be changed with her involvement as well, which she deflects (with the same tone she deflects being reminded of the village's cannibalism rituals)
- tips:
- A Faded Notebook
- written by hifumi t; matthew 24:42-43 from the bible acommpanied by a note that the addressed party must study hard and prepare for the christian god's return
- must be hifumi takano, miyo's grandfather
- rika pov; miyo and tomitake don't take rikas advice that their lives are in danger very seriously. miyo affirms that rika has 8 mountain dogs watching her tonight
- irie also has a security team watching him
- she warns irie and ooishi about the couple's impending death; irie can't really do anything while ooishi places a patrol car where tomitake's body is expected to be found
- she tells her friends; they decide to try and stick together with the couple to keep watch on them. eventually late at night the couple wants to leave alone together and so the kids let them go
- the kids assume they're gonna sleep together etc. but tomitake insists theyre heading to the clinic together because he forgot something there (???)
- the punishment game where the kids freak him out from arc1 still occurs
- fredrica poem about shroedingers box
- third person pov; tomitake at the clinic gathers up paperwork and tells miyo he thinks rika probably needs a check-up for her disturbing premonitive dreams. miyo closes in on him; he thinks she's flirting, but instead she suggests he might indeed die tonight (FINALLLYYYYY)
- she drapes herself on him, which would be seductive to him if not for her bizarre tone and look; she says he's exactly her type... but then claims it's been her dream since she was a kid to enact oyashirosama's curse, which will finally happen soon
- she suddenly breaks up with him citing that they're of different worlds and could never be togther longterm, comparing it to the legend of humans and demons in the village
- she calls him "from the sunlit realm" unlike herself, and briefly offers him the chance to defect; he hesitates, and she sends 6 mountain dog operants upon him
- she explains tomitake is working towards curing hinamizawa syndrome whereas she and her team want to "see the bomb detonate" so spectacularly that it cannot be ignored by the world at large
- she asks him again if he's willing to defect, trying to seduce him; he refuses and she laughs villain style
- okonogi is revealed; he's a mountain dog and tomitake is a lieutenant. irie and tomitake have been the only ones to not know the mountain dogs are under miyo's thumb for her purposes entirely
- tomitake is restrained; he refuses again to join which delights miyo as he has been her "last attachment"
- she explains that he's already L3 infected; the clinic gave him a fake prophylactic vaccine before he entered the village. he's knocked out; she injects him with H173 which immediately induces L5 infection, which irritates the lymph nodes (leading to neck scratching)
- it's 10pm; she has her dogs put tomitake in her trunk alongside his bike. okonogi declares "operation doomsday" has begun; miyo tells them to wait on orders from headquarters (in tokyo?)
- miyo pov; she dumps him closer to okinomiya than planned because of ooishis parked patrol cars. she bids farewell saying he's going to be a part of history
- she emphasizes she's about to disappear to complete the curse pattern
- she leaves the prefecture and meets up with operants in the middle of a dark field. she enters the group's command vehicle; it's a van. an operant hands her coffee, calling her major
- she asks how her corpse is going; her team is faking her death in gifu
- third person pov; miyo escaped the village with eighteen important documents after having assassinated the tokyo liaison tomitake in a way that will make "the tokyo office" suspicious of the irie clinic, to spin the story towards irie having enacted violent revenge for his funding being cut
- the gifu team messed up a bit and procured a body that had already been dead for 24 hours rather than fresher; miyo tells them to go ahead and use that one to further the mythical potential of the legends that will be made of her
- calls herself "oyashirosama's messenger"
- as the body died exactly as rika openly predicted to miyo, she instructs the hinamizawa mountain dogs to tighten security on rika
- back in hinamizawa, irie arrives to identify tomitake's body. unlike in arc5, he complies
- irie internally realizes tomitake was injected with a potent version of the pathogen and is in disbelief
- H173 is a chemical weapon thought to have been fully destroyed by the clinic; calls it a demon
- notes that tomitake and takano are coworkers from a tokyo office and watchdogs that were taking note of the clinic
- pov rika; the next day, ooishi visits the school and asks to see her. they meet at the shrine: rika expects her to suspect him but he doesn't
- he suspects takano. rika is shocked as she's never considered this at all; ooishi explains the found body isn't concretely miyo's per examination as mysteriously a lot of the test results on identification got thrown out past dental records, which aren't fully reliable
- rika visits the clinic to affirm the mountain dogs will protect her; okonogi is their leader. okonogi implies irie killed the couple and that ooishi's theories should be ignored
- irie is beside himself trying to prove his innocence. he's being framed; it seems like the clinic was initially set up for bioweapons but was gradually made smaller and started focusing on a cure instead. the story would go that he killed tomitake, the budget liaison as his primary target
- rika suggests takano as the perp; this stirs irie suddenly, but okonogi objects
- rika's unsure what to do, realizing she may have been stuck in the lion's den the past 100 years by going to the clinic for help when the clinic is under miyo's thumb
- two days later, on june 21st 1983: rika notes that the earliest she is typically killed is on the night of the 22nd
- hanyuu steps in to ask if rika's ready to die soon, trying to spin it as a this miraculous loop is a kid's birthday party that can't last forever. rika is heartbroken as this is the best outcome world she's ever had
- hanyuu explains she absolutely doesn't want rika to disappear
- keiichi pov; rena notices rika seems unusually down and makes him go ask her what's wrong
- rika recites a fredrica-like poem with the caveat keiichi doesn't ask where she learned it (?!) (it's clear she wrote it !!????!?! is fredrica just rika??)
- rika asks him to analyze it; he says it sounds like the author is very sad and could benefit from asking their friends for help. rika mentions her life is in danger but refuses to go into detail
- keiichi consults the girls; they're all bewildered by the idea of anyone being after rika
- tips:
- Faded Notebook II - III
- more notes from hifumi about god; that one should never doubt themself as that's on par with humans doubting and going against god
- pov rika; she awakes on the 22nd. she decides to stay home while satoko goes to school; satoko emphacizes to her she doesn't want to live in a world without her, and that if she's troubled she should ask for help
- for the first time, rika is feeling like she wants to stay in this perfect world loop rather than get her murder over with; she cries thinking about this "set" of her friends mourning her and having to go on without her
- okonogi calls rika and warns her irie is going to murder her. rika at first buys this but then pieces together that something is off. he tells her theres 20 patrolmen rotating shifts at the shrine
- she decides to contact ooishi and ask for his help citing an anonymous call threatening her life, as the mountain dogs are extremely wary of the cops catching onto them
- rika typically spends her last day getting drunk
- ooishi is heading out to gifu to investigate miyo's faked death but agrees to send officers to patrol the shrine
- cops pov; ooishi thinks the threat on rika's life is to pressure him away from using her as an informant in the curse murders investigation. he instructs a small group watch her and reassure her
- dogs pov; rika's house is bugged. a cop enters her house to calm her down as they think she's afraid of the supposed threatening phone call. the plan is for rika's body to be discovered on the morning of the 23rd
- rika's pov; 4 cops arrive and patrol the shrine, one of them staying on the ground floor of rika's house
- she realizes that hanyuu's heart is not cold for abandoning hope, but rather hardened far more than rika's from the same circumstances. rika calls her the same as satoko, waiting for a savior rather than acting (BRO)
- hanyuu is upset, emphacizing the fact she can't communicate or interact with anyone but rika, which deeply distresses hanyuu
- satoko arrives home with the rest of the club. rika bursts into laughter and explains tonight she's being murdered to them. they deduce she has some sort of immense burden she's never been able to tell them about
- rika sits down and explains everything:
- hinamizawa syndrome was known pre-wwii but only after hinamizawan soldiers started going berserk from homesickness did a particular researcher decide to investigate
- the disease is not born of/related to hinamizawan culture directly, it just happens to be localized and excarcebated by one's environment
- the disease is mental illness exarcebated by the parasite on a physical level as a bodily malfunction rather than purely mental illness
- the village developed ways to prevent terminal infection:
- drive away outsiders
- enforce unity so as to minimize potential for suspecting others, which instigates paranoia
- bloody rituals that force unity
- oyashirosama is the goddess of marriage/friendship but hinamizawa is so intense on emphacizing the curse and terror of needing to follow her rules, only one district in okinomiya even recognizes her patron topics
- villagers must not leave the village as that onsets symptoms; in modern times this is less severe than it used to be
- keiichi's terminal infection in onikakushi was because he had moved to the village, contracted the parasite, then left the village for a few days for a relative's funeral (!!!) the apologies he kept dreaming about were hanyuu regretting his unusually quick infection
- the researcher doctor insisted there was potential for using the disease as a bioweapon but the military would not listen
- post wwii a far-right secret society very enmeshed with government formed called "tokyo" based in tokyo that aimed to reject the usamerican restructuring of japanese government/culture and strive to restore the imperial japanese empire
- due to peace treaties preventing such, tokyo's aim was to create non-nuclear weapons on par with nukes; they turned to bioweapons
- irie was chosen to study hinamizawa syndrome based on a thesis he wrote; torn between the chance to run his own clinic and the cost of unavoidably contracting the parasite himself, he agreed and developed both a treatment and vaccine
- miyo was placed as a tokyo watchdog to preserve secrecy. the mountain dogs special forces unit was formed as her right hand men to enforce secrecy
- within the cold war, militaries and police departments alike moved towards forming small special forces groups to use in place of proper military intervention/escalation
- the mountain dogs had been the ones to kidnap the minister of construction's grandson in order to quell the dam conflict
- the curse is enacted by the mountain dogs, who kidnap terminal patients so as to keep the disease hidden from the public
- tomitake's role in tokyo is to get progress reports 4 times a year
- irie started by studying via autopsies, but had a breakthrough when the dogs provided him the 1979 foreman's murderer
- the pathogen is only detectable while the patient is alive via an "inhumane method"; after the person dies, it leaves no trace making it perfect as a bioweapon
- ~40 years since its institution, tokyos priorities have shifted away from nationalism/war/imperial conquest; irie's project is no longer wanted as it is seen as an embarrassment
- rather than shut the clinic down, tokyo instructed irie to destroy all evidence / research / samples of weaponizing the pathogen, instead allowing him to continue looking for a cure
- oyashirosama is both fiction made up to enforce rules made to cope with the disease and the original queen of hinamizawa. the furude bloodline descends from the queen's bloodline; rika is effectively a queen bee or queen ant which the villages are biologically driven to serve with pheromones (???!?!?!)
- the village constantly prioritizes the youngest furude girl, hence all the reverence; rika's death would spell immediate, terminal levels of infection for the entire village
- rika finishes explaining, then gets into describing satoko as an extremely at-risk patient, more than the rest of the village. satoko is devastated that she'll have to get daily injections for the rest of her life
- satoko freaks out a bit; rika monologues that she has blocked out "an accident" from her memory and realizes that telling her she's terminal may reawaken that
- rena says she's proud of rika for suffering this burden alone; rika cries
- the best self-medication to the illness is to resist the paranoia when it starts to creep in (okay...). this is best managed by having a strong support network to rely on
- the kids come to the conclusion miyo is definitely suspicious and the best course of action is to trust the cops (AFTER THE WHOLE REST OF THE GAME HAD THE COPS FACTION MANIPULATE THE KIDS AS PAWNS FOR THEIR OWN SCHEME)
- the kids get hungry and cook; they measure if they can contact irie and how much danger he probably is in. ooishi calls; he's definitively found that the body isn't miyo's and has set a search warrant for her
- cops pov; kura and kuma driving to rika's
- right on entering hinamizawa ooishi spots an unmarked white van that seems to work for a phony company supposedly repairing a phone facility
- dogs pov; panickedly reporting police approaching. snipers are on the ready. ooishi probes the fake maintenance guys (who might be installing bugs?), who buckle under pressure
- kuma is sent to contact the precinct; he's sniped. ooishi is shot in the back by one of the maintenance dogs
- miyo's surveillance hq pov; she is wearing a villain outfit now 🥰. she explains rika is predicting things with her supernatural ability rather than actually figuring anything out, so the plan must not be significantly changed
- rika pov; the kids and 4 cops on shrine grounds eat together. they're starting to get anxious at ooishi not showing up (hes 2 hours late)
- komiyama, another detective arrives alongside another cop to relieve the 4 patrolling officers and send the kids home. left alone, satoko gets into excitedly talking about the traps she has set up on the shrine grounds to cheer rika up (risky as the room is bugged)
- hanyuu appears and definitively says rika is about to die, whereas rika is still holding on to hope
- at 1 am, miyo gives the order to kill everyone on the shrine grounds without the use of firearms. the phone lines are cut; the dogs use modified tasers to kill
- rika and satoko hear the attack and run into the forest from the window; the dog set to chase after tham is caught in a satoko trap
- rika suggests they hide in the sonozaki bunker dungeon, but rika slips and gets fatally injured; satoko refuses to run away without her. the dogs catch up and satoko tries to attack them and trick them to stall for time
- rika in near death is torn on figuring out to stay with satoko even if they'll both die or ditch satoko and try to preserve this world's fragment memory
- a faux choice screen is presented; it automatically chooses to save satoko and lose this world's memory
- rika stands in front of satoko; suddenly the rest of the kids rush onto the scene and attack the dogs. they run for the sonozaki bunker, attacking pursuing dogs intending to steal their van
- time stops; keiichi is shot. miyo shot him; her hq has been on the shrine this whole time
- miyo shoots them one by one. she pauses to explain she's becoming oyashirosama herself
- for satoko she repeats the veggies challenge, which becomes a bit too much but she still slays
- for rika, she enacts watanagashi by disemboweling her; rika asks to be awake for it rather than knocked out so she can try to remember it. bound and being driven to the shrine, hanyuu appears and breaks down; rika realizes hanyuu has secretly held onto hope deep down this entire time
- rika resolves to try and stay conscious for her disembowelment to preserve the memory, asking hanyuu to pay close attention and watch
- rika is killed in this way in every world; miyo goes crazy laughing as she cuts into her
- in dying, rika imagines? her friends discussing how this world went wrong. rena suddenly turns to hanyuu, explaining she's the final piece that needs to work towards believing in the miracle for it to finally occur (based on how the dogs + miyo just barely outnumbered the kids in the shootout)
- hanyuu really just wants to be their friend and a real girl. she's ashamed of her monstrous traits
- fredrica poem then credits (genuine staff notes)
- operations manual for how the dogs should deal with L5 terminal patients. miyo is the clinic institute director; mentions "emergency manual 34 (miyo)"
- emergency manual 34 (in red text) in the event of a mass outbreak and thus the irie institute's secret being on the verge of breaking out, tokyo must:
- terminate all patients above L2 after assembling them in designated shelter area
- destroy all evidence
- conceal this order
- disguise the incident as a natural gas disaster
- quarantine hinamizawa
- hinamizawans below L2 must vacate or else get shot
- secrecy preservation unit needs to ensure hinamizawans are not further pushed into paranoia up until they're killed
- all communications in and out must be shut down
- underground portion of the institute must be flooded with 193 pieces of evidence transported/destroyed; among this is the strain of H170 bioweapons which must be handled with extreme caution
- after manual 34 is executed the quarantine case is handed over to more official channels who must never become suspicious of the special unit's actions
- this order must be executed by a high-ranking official and is considered the ultimate emergency measure
- hifumi takano's memo to colonel koizumi on hinamizawa syndrome regarding council towards war decisions:
- the queen carrier is like a queen ant; within the furude bloodline
- "takano relaxation method" is the best for dispelling paranoia
- terminal patients do not recover even if relocated closer to the queen; the directive is to disappear them for research
- based on research, he believes the whole village would self-destruct within 24 to 48 hours of the queen carrier being killed; this is a prototype of emergency manual 34 directing military suppression of such an event, treating it like a mass civilian uprising
- official order marked june 23 1983: enacts manual 34, instructions to test the vaccine further, info on hinamizawa syndrome instructing how health ministries should react (under secrecy)
- the pathogen is an airborne infectious virus; all personnel involved with the cleanup operation must get vaccinated, of which there is still a chance to test positive for the virus
- treatment medication is C120; when used on a non-infected body, it causes basically hinamizawa syndrome (rika in arc5)
- pov goverment meeting for handling of the cleanup; the prime minister is hesitating to give the order for manual 34 to take place. they buy into the story of iries embezzlement
- knowledge of the disease and related research absolutely must not spread as it will impact japan negatively on a global level. the cleanup units might use gas to mass kill villagers
- the order is given; the PM ephasizes trying to save the 2000 villagers rather than immediately execute them
- irie committed suicide (supposedly)
- brief pov of the villagers gathering to "evacuate" (its grim)
- an officer requests a moment of silence before the mass murder; miyo approves it, he prays to god despite not being a believer
- miyo quotes the bible passages left by her grandfather
- voiced miyo narration; from the hq she announces she has become a god and the curse is fully made true as the hinamizawans are killed via neurogas
- manual 34 is complete within just a few hours in the middle of the night. miyo is incomprehensibly giddy, going on about her godly power to enact a curse
- she monologues that it was her heavenly mission to identify the hints of a god's existence in the village and restore it to full glory, in which she becomes goddess oyashirosama directly
- tips:
- This Fragment's End
- unclear pov; the same as this arc's intro but not referring to itself as rika anymore...
- narrator is trying to come up with a scenario for rika to solve everything, just to kill time
- rika decided to try again after her last death despite it all Staff Room
- ryukishi07 apologizes for presenting the child consultation centre so coldly and announces the next arc will be the final one. emphasizes he wanted this arc to function as an answer book to most of the series' mysteries
